Do you want to build a book hunt?
Inviting all authors to take part in the #BigWABookHunt and #BigBigBookHunt
Hello my friends!
I’ve spent the last couple of days racing around the southwest of WA, visiting some brilliant places on my #findlou book treasure hunt tour. And now I’m extending the idea and I’d love you all to take part!
My tour
You can see the photos and recaps from my pre-release treasure hunt tour on Facebook and Instagram and I’ll be breaking down all the details of how I put this together and what I learned from this as a marketing concept for paid subscribers next week. I had a great time meeting readers in the southwest of WA (where my new book is set) and introducing them to my books - it was incredible how many times the people I was speaking to were part of a book group (and were therefore going to share the book with 10 more people). Right now, at this point in history, I’m feeling so passionate and energised about getting our books out as widely as possible and trying to highlight the power and significance of reading - and this is such a fun way to share our stories and spread the word!

Introducing the #BigWABookHunt and the #BigBigBookHunt
My original idea was to extend the Book Hunt in Western Australia - but then I realised that if we adapted this a bit further, all authors could play! You’ll find all the instructions on my website, and some useful resources to help you make the most of the treasure hunt.
The concept is simple:
Authors hide signed copies of their books in various locations and share clues using #BigWABookHunt (or #BigBigBookHunt for those outside WA).
Readers follow the hints, go searching, and if they find a book, they share their discovery online!
It’s a fun, interactive way to connect books with readers, spark curiosity, and celebrate the magic of storytelling in the real world. Whether you're an author looking to surprise new readers or a book lover eager for an adventure, this is for you!
How to Get Involved
📖 Authors: Sign your books, wrap them if you like (who doesn’t love a surprise?), and hide them somewhere fun! Post clues using the hashtags so readers can track them down. There are detailed guidelines and resources on my website to help you get started. Remember to encourage others to post and share, particularly if you hide your books at a venue with their own following.
🔎 Readers: Follow the hashtags, keep an eye out for clues, and go hunting! If you find a book, snap a pic and share it—let’s keep the excitement going and help spread the word.
🌍 Not in WA? No problem! That’s where #BigBigBookHunt comes in—you can join in from anywhere in the world. Let’s turn this into a global book treasure hunt!
Examples of my posts on stories
This is more than just a giveaway; it’s about making book discovery an experience—one that’s fun, surprising, and full of connection. So, what do you say? Are you ready to hide some books? Or maybe start hunting for one?
Let the treasure hunt begin!
What a fabulous idea! My debut book is out later this year — I’m totally doing this!
Oh brilliant! I don’t have many copies of my books to do this with but I’ll hide a copy of Well Behaved Women! Great idea Sara.
